报告题目:Tests of modified gravitational wave propagations

报  告 人:朱涛 教授,浙江工业大学

The direct discovery of gravitational waves (GWs) from the coalescence of compact binary components by the LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA Collaboration provides an unprecedented opportunity for exploring the underlying theory of gravity. The gravitational waves, after their generation, will be propagating at cosmological distances before they are detected and can provide invaluable information on the nature of gravity that drives their propagation. Important signatures of theories of gravity beyond general relativity include modified speed and friction, frequency-dependent damping and modified dispersion, and birefringence of gravitational waves. The effects of frequency-dependent damping and modified dispersion are related to the Lorentz violation in gravity, while the birefringence arises from the parity violation in gravity. In this talk, we will focus on the modified gravitational wave propagation in modified gravities. I will briefly review the universal parameterized framework for describing the possible modified gravitational wave propagation in modified gravities and their signatures in the gravitational waveforms. And then discuss how to test them with signals of gravitational waves detected by LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA detectors.
